Summit upsets Evergreen, 13-12

Evergreen suffered its first loss of the season last week, dropping a 13-12 decision to Summit at Summit's field.

The upset loss completed a five-game road trip for the Cougars, 5-1 overall and 1-1 conference.  Cougars are home for their next game when they host Jefferson on Thursday, Oct. 6.  Kick off is scheduled for 7 pm.

Evergreen remains unbeaten with 23-11 victory

Undefeated Evergreen High School overcame an 8-0 halftime deficit to register its fourth straight road win with a 23-11 victory over Elizabeth HS in Colorado Springs.

The Cougars, now 5-0, look to make it five straight on the road when they travel to play Summit HS on Friday.

Elizabeth jumped ahead on a 10-yard run by quarterback Scott Carter and later added a safety with Evergreen attempting to punt out of its end zone.

In between those scores, Evergreen stuffed Elizabeth on a 4th and 1 at the Evergreen 2. DE Jordan Petzel met Carter in Carter and made the tackle with assists from Jared Thaut, Trent Tosetti, and Jacob Brooks.

Evergreen got on the board quickly in the third quarter after Jared Thaut recovered a fumble on the Elizabeth 36. Quarterback Noah Ansley would score on a 16-yard bootleg around the left end with 8:46 remaining and after Keenan Prouty’s PAT, the Cougars were within 8-7.

A Lane Hamilton sack forced Elizabeth to punt on its next possession. Taking over on its 18, Evergreen picked up six yards before giving it to running back Quinn O’Neill on a reverse.

O’Neill, who scored three touchdowns a week ago, took the reverse and didn’t stop until he was back in the end zone 74 yards later. Prouty’s kick gave the Cougars a 14-8 lead.

Evergreen was back in business on this first play of Elizabeth’s next possession when John Cassel picked off a Carter pass and returned it to the Elizabeth 30. The Cougars stalled on the possession but added to their lead when Prouty booted a 44-yard field goal to widen Evergreen’s advantage to 17-8.

Elizabeth answered with a field goal to cut its deficit to 17-11, but another Quinn reverse, this one for 42 yards, keyed a 63-yard Evergreen drive that was capped by Tossetti’s 1-yard scoring run.

EXTRA POINTS: O’Neill finished with 131 yards on just seven carries…Cougars finished with 207 yards on the ground…Ansley was 4 for 9 passing for 30 yards and also ran for 30 yards.
